I have a question: what would make this blog more compelling to you? What would make you go beyond the apathetic and lazy clicking of a “Like” button? On New Year’s Eve, 2013, I posted the fantastic infographic thing that WordPress (a great blogging host) prepares for each blogger on their site, which broke my stats out into several different and interesting ways of looking at my blog traffic. How many San Francisco cable cars full of readers I had, and that sort of whacky stat. However, there’s one thing that I did want to thank the folks who read my blog for, and that’s for the ever growing (if slow) readership stats I have.
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,000 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 50 trips to carry that many people.
Bless me, St. Sebastian, oh patron saint of runners and athletes. Bestow upon me your wisdom and hear my confession, the confession of a sinner who skips workouts, who doesn’t review his goals often enough, and yet who tidies his corner of the blogosphere for the sake of appearance, and tries to always be shown putting the best training shoe forward. Forgive me for being so undifferentiated in my writing, so full of echo and reblog, and yet at times so empty and vapid and lacking of opinion and direction. Bestow upon me your sweet, sweaty grace for writing as though from a position that it was all so effortless, for it is not; that it was easy to decide and that with some small motivation, you too will get on your training shoes and get out the door. Hear me, and let me speak my confession and opine strongly at last on my own fitness, health, weight and blogging – and how I, as a mere mortal on this trodden earth, am a regular if not total failure at most of it.
Sometime earlier today my little blog topped the 5000 page view mark. I know that there are bloggers out there that will hit that on their most minor post every day, and it has taken me over 2.5 years to reach that goal. Thanks for letting my little corner oF the inter webs intersect with a corner of your universe. Keep reading, keep working, and thanks for dropping by!
Well, today is the 15th of September, half way through the month that is the honourary second start to the year. The kids are back in school, the traffic has picked up again, and the fall running race season is in full swing. Nights are cooler, days are shortening, Indian Summer is setting in where it happens at all, and people are putting away their summer activity gear like golf clubs, bicycles and rollerblades.
With all that going on, I thought it would be a good time to ask: what are you most proud of this summer? Which part of your healthy lifestyle are you most proud of following through on, or exploring. What are you happiest about accomplishing? Which part of the summer did you make the most of? How did you push yourself to reach your goals? How did you spend those glorious sun-drenched days? What will you remember about this summer, as the leaves begin to turn?
